Terms And Conditions For All Cooking Lessons & Italian Language Classes
Italian Language Lessons - General Policies & Liability
Mamma Licia is not liable for any personal injuries or illnesses that may occur at any time, nor for any loss of, or damage to personal property and you, the client, accept all the terms and conditions as listed here below.
- Please note that unfortunately at this time, Mamma Licia’s facilities are not handicapped accessible.
- When signing up for a lesson/class/term/session, it is the client’s responsibility to inform Mamma Licia in writing, in the space provided on the signup sheet, of any allergies and/or dietary restrictions as well as provide an emergency contact. Should you, the Client, require emergency medical attention, you hereby grant permission to call an ambulance and let emergency medical personnel undertake administration of medical procedures as may be deemed necessary or advisable. The Client also understands that in the event of an emergency, under the circumstances, every reasonable effort, will be made to contact the emergency contact person (specified by the Client on the sign up sheet) but no guarantees can be made.
- Proper attire is requested for all lessons and your prompt arrival is appreciated.
- Students should arrive no earlier and no later than 10 min before or after a lesson’s start time, as to not disturb others.
- Lessons/classes will be terminated immediately and no refunds or credits will be issued if Mamma Licia deems a situation to be unsafe and/or inappropriate due to circumstances and/or someone’s behavior. Mamma Licia is not responsible for any injuries or illnesses that may occur at any time.
- Enrollment in any class/lesson/term/session is personal and not transferable.
Italian Language - General Payment
- All payments are due in full before the first lesson begins and must be cash or check made out to ”Mamma Licia”. A $40 processing charge will be assessed for any checks returned by your bank. All late payments are subject to a $30 late fee for every week past due.
- Students can make up a paid missed class by attending another class of equal value within the same term/session on any night as long as you inform Mamma Licia 24 hours ahead of time and she approves it as there may not be enough space.
- Missed classes from one term/session cannot be applied to the next term/session.
- All prices are subject to change at anytime without any prior warning.
- The fees for the terms/sessions are as indicated, otherwise it is $340 for a Regular Term which includes 16.5 hours of tuition (15 one hour classes plus one 1.5 hour Italian Festa class), plus book (approx. $29). Each Short Term is priced as described, plus book (approx. $29). Books and materials are always charged extra.
- Only if a Term/session is running, occasionally Mamma Licia may approve a student to join in a class or term/session for a cash only “Drop-in Fee” as follows: $30 for a one hour class, $190 for 8 one hour classes in the same term only, and $40 for one 1.5 hour Festa class. Otherwise, there is no pro-rating of terms/sessions.
- Italian Private lessons are one-on-one tutoring and are $75 cash per hour for a maximum of two students of the same level per class. Private Lessons are held either remotely or in-person in downtown Salem, MA. For private lessons in the client’s home there’s an additional $20 fee per class, and if it’s out of area there’s an extra additional fee of $1 per mile roundtrip. Every 10 pre-paid private lessons earn you 1 free class.
Italian Language - Cancellation & Refund Policy
Mamma Licia reserves the right to cancel and/or modify lessons/classes and terms/sessions at any time. Mamma Licia will do her best to contact everyone if a class is cancelled, but she cannot guarantee prior notification. Every effort will be made to reschedule the lesson and any payment for the cancelled class will be applicable to the new lesson date as long as the lesson was not cancelled due to a Client’s improper and/or inappropriate behavior and/or unsafe situations.
Mamma Licia reserves the right to cancel any “Term/Session” of lessons and/or class that fails to attract sufficient enrollment. In that case only, all clients will be notified via the contact information you provided when you made your reservation and a full refund will be offered in the form of a check or a credit towards a future class (credit must be used within 60 days of issuing).
Gift certificates are not refundable nor transferable, and enrollment in any class/lesson/term/session is personal and not transferable.
If a client is dissatisfied with an Italian language program for any reason, to receive a partial refund, Mamma Licia must be notified in writing (letter or email only) at least 4 days prior to the beginning of the second class, no refunds nor credits will be issued past this time. A 50 percent processing fee will be deducted for any approved refund.
Cooking Lessons - General Policies
Clients must inform Mamma Licia in writing of any allergies and/or dietary restrictions in their party when making a reservation!
Proper attire and comfortable closed-toe shoes are highly recommended for all cooking lessons and while a gratuity is never expected, it is always appreciated.
“Personal Cooking Lessons” are in your kitchen with your equipment, tools and ingredients. The Client is responsible for his own property, including the proper cleaning and sanitizing of all areas, equipment and ingredients necessary, as well as set up and final clean up.
Lessons/classes will be terminated instantly and no refunds or credits will be issued if Mamma Licia deems a situation to be unsafe or improper due to circumstances or someone’s behavior.

Alcoholic Beverage Policy
Mamma Licia’s Group Cooking Lessons are “Bring Your Own Beverage”. You are welcome to bring your own non-alcoholic beverage and/or wine or beer (no other liquor allowed) to a lesson and consume it on the premises. However, I ask that you consume your beverage responsibly. Whoever fails to do that will be asked to leave with no refunds or credits issued. Be advised that Mamma Licia may ask you to present identification to prove that you are of legal Massachusetts State drinking age. Anyone who will be driving and/or is on certain medication should not consume alcohol. At this time I also want to remind you that State laws/rules do not allow you to drive with open containers containing any amounts of alcohol, therefore plan accordingly.

“Group Cooking Lessons” in Mamma Licia’s kitchen
Advance payment in full is required to reserve your spot for any “Group Cooking Lesson” in Mamma Licia’s kitchen and enrollment in a class/lesson is not transferable.
“Personal Cooking Lessons” in your kitchen
A “Personal Cooking Lesson” contract is not transferable.
A $150.00 non-refundable deposit per lesson is required with signed contract agreement to reserve any “Personal Cooking Lesson”.
Personal Cooking Lessons that include the purchasing of Alcohol, and/or are for Groups of 3 or more, will require an extra non-refundable deposit of $250.00.
Any balance is due before the lesson begins on the scheduled lesson date.
Groceries and Overtime are not included and will be billed separately.
Lessons start promptly at scheduled time, any delay to the lesson’s start time will be charged as overtime and added to the bill. Overtime is due in full at the end of the lesson.
Overtime is billed $75 for every additional half hour, or fraction thereof, of a personal lesson.
Services out of area—beyond a 5 mile radius from Salem, MA—will incur a surcharge of $1 per mile, roundtrip.

Cooking - Cancellation & Refund Policy
Mamma Licia reserves the right to cancel any lesson/class at any time. Every effort will be made to reschedule the lesson and the deposit will be applicable to the new lesson date as long as the lesson was not cancelled due to improper behavior and/or unsafe circumstances.
Mamma Licia also reserves the right to modify the lesson/class and/or menu and/or eliminate parts of it at any time due to ingredient availability and/or client skills and time constraints. Therefore, recipes may be substituted or eliminated and not every recipe scheduled may be prepared.
Mamma Licia reserves the right to cancel any “Group” lesson and/or class that fails to attract sufficient enrollment. In that case only, all clients will be notified via the contact information they provided when they made their reservation and a full refund will be offered in the form of a check or a credit towards a future class (credit must be used within 60 days of issuing). Mamma Licia reserves the right to cancel and/or modify lessons/classes and menus at any time.

“Group Cooking Lessons” in Mamma Licia’s kitchen.
- Cancellations made by the client with 14 days notice or more for a “Group Cooking lesson” in Mamma Licia’s kitchen will receive a full refund.
- Cancellations made made by the client within 7–13 days prior to the lesson/class date for a “Group Cooking lesson” in Mamma Licia’s kitchen will receive an equal value credit to be used within 60 days towards another Mamma Licia lesson (cooking or Italian language).
- There are no refunds nor credits for any lesson/class cancelled by the client with fewer than 7 days notice.
“Personal Cooking Lessons” in your kitchen
- Cancellations made by the client with 14 days or more notice for a “Personal Cooking lesson” will receive an equal value credit to be used within 60 days towards another Mamma Licia lesson (cooking or Italian language). The client will be billed any applicable grocery total already purchased and must pick-up said groceries within 2 days of notice. Any groceries that will need to be purchased for the new lesson will be charged separately.
- There are no refunds nor credits for any “Personal Cooking Lesson” cancelled with fewer than 14 days notice, and the client will be billed any applicable out of area surcharge, as well as any applicable grocery total already purchased, which will have to be picked-up within 2 days of notice.
- Enrollment in a class/lesson is not transferable.
